Experimenting :: Linda Zhao

Sometimes you may get in a routine of creating in a way you are comfortable with. Wether it be by force of habit or the enjoyment of constant praise from an audience there are a lot of reasons that one can fall into a comfort zone when making their art.
While shooting with Linda Zhao when she was in L.A. I wanted to switch things up with my approach and technique to making photos. I have been really intrigued with dragging the shutter on photographs that I decided to give it a go while creating with her.
Normally on photos (especially photos of people) we expect a very sharp and clear image to be presented. I thought it would be fun to create a set of the opposite. A little sloppy and somewhat blurred.
During the shoot I enjoyed what I was seeing on my Monochrom 246 camera. I experimented with using a flash and without using a flash as well as different forms of natural lighting. By the end I felt I had a group of images that displayed what I set out to do. Break my routine and remind myself that there are other ways to create.
Stepping outside your comfort zone can be one of the hardest things to do. The sense of uncertainty can be very uncomfortable. But in order to grow you need to do this from time to time. While these photos may be different from some of my previous work I hope you enjoy the set none the less as well as this message.
